Pet friendly accomodation

There are a growing number of pet friendly hotels, guesthouses and self-catering holiday homes in the UK, where pets are welcomed. This is in response to a demand, as more pet owners are taking their pets on holiday with them. Facilities and rates vary, so it is advisable to make enquiries beforehand and to make bookings long in advance, as quality establishments are quickly booked up. There are various books that list different types of Pet Friendly holiday accommodation. dog, friendly, hotels, accomodation, B&B, pet, These include; hotels, pubs, holiday cottages and bed and breakfasts.

The Dogs Trust charity has created a database of dog friendly venues. These include pubs, hotels and tourist attractions for days out with your dog as well as holidays. The information is categorised into pubs & bars, accommodation, tourist attractions & Days Out and Beaches. They also have an arrangement with a company called Welcome Cottages whereby they will receive a donation for every week booked through them. Pets are allowed at most Welcome Cottages and they always go free of charge. Have a look at the cottages available in the UK, France and Ireland – the site also allows you to see what other customers thought.

How about canal or river boating on the waterways of England and Wales. HOSEASONS offers a range of canal boat holidays. This type of holiday is perfect if your dog is very active or likes swimming – tire him out in the water whilst you relax in the boat!

The Signpost Collection of Premier Hotels is another source of information for pet owners as to where they could take their dogs. The hotels listed on, this site welcome dogs, although many will make a small daily charge (usually £5-7.50) to cover extra cleaning. Some may have restrictions about allowing dogs in public rooms. Most hotels will also be able to provide pet food if desired.

Remember that whilst your pet is on holiday, it is important that he is easily identified should he go missing consider purchasing a collar with your pet’s details permanently personalised on it -
