Microchip your pet. This is the best way to ensure that your pet is traceable if he/she goes astray whilst boarding. A tiny device the size of a grain of rice is implanted under the skin usually in the neck area.- this area will be scanned by a vet or rescue centre if your animal is found. The microchip provides a unique identity number which is registered on a nationwide database so that your dog can be identified if lost. Collars should be strong, well fitting and have an identity tag attached. Get the identity tag engraved with your contact phone numbers. If your dog is micro chipped, say so on the i.d. tag as this will ensure your dog is scanned and that you will be reunited with your dog. It is possible to have your pet’s details personalised on a pet collar. Have a temporary tag made up with the Boarder's contact details on it so that if your dog goes wandering, they will be contacted, some boarding companies will arrange to do this on your behalf. Leave your vet's contact details and make sure that your animal is fully insured – coming back to a large vet bill if you are not insured really could ruin your holiday! Give relevant medical information to the Boarder as this could be helpful to them should your dog become ill whilst you are away. Leave contact details of someone you trust to make decisions about your animal on your behalf should you not be contactable in an emergency. Alternatively, let your vet know that you are boarding your dog and inform them of how far your wish treatments to go should your animal become ill. Update vaccinations and flea and worm treatments Take toys and own bedding if possible
